Does the Eurail run trains over night? Do you have to book a spot on the train? Thanks for any help!?

August 23rd, 2010

I’m heading to Europe this summer for 45 days, through 9 different countries. I’m just trying to figure out exactly how the Eurail works–any help would be great (sites, advice, opinions) ^_^

yes they run at night if you get the rail pass it is cheaper and you can travel on the days you want with out having to get a ticket that day. it is not the best to travel at night because most places you will go are not far away from each other on the train so you will not be able to sleep i also found it hard to understand the announcements of where we were. I also got a youth rail pass and i am 25, so look into that. The train schedules are really easy to read so don’t worry about that also the people that work there speak English. you can reserve seats for 3 euro totally worth it. There are hotels in the train stations but i bet you are staying in hostels lots of great places make sure to start making reservations now because the get booked up over the summer i went in late October and some were full. most hostels if not all have Internet and bars. Have fun

Reaction about the movie I.T.A.L.Y.?

August 23rd, 2010

Love is a journey. This is the tagline of GMA Films’ I.T.A.L.Y. (I Trust And Love You) which deals with finding true love across three continents, five countries, and 13 cities.

The story begins with Destiny (Jolina Magdangal), who decided to try her luck as a cabin girl in a luxury liner, Costa Magica, to help her family where she is the breadwinner. She has three brothers (Aljur Abrenica, Edgar Allan Guzman, and Paolo Valdez), her father (Pen Medina) is confined to a wheelchair; while her mother is already dead.

A hopeless romantic, Destiny consulted a fake fortuneteller, Charing (Chariz Solomon), who told her that the man of her dreams possesses the following signs: always wears white, has an initial of P.I.G., and has a birth mark on his buttocks.

Aboard Costa Magica, Destiny meets other characters that will make her stay there more colorful, and each one of them has also their own stories to tell: Lovely (Eugene Domingo), an old maid who seemed to have lost her chance in love after missing her own wedding; Paolo (Dennis Trillo), a mysterious guest who is living in the past; Nathan (Mark Herras), a young cabin boy who wants to find direction in his life; Phoebe (Rhian Ramos), a guest on the ship who feels neglected by her mother (Ida Henares); and Stella (Rufa Mae Quinto), the lounge singer who is unlucky in love.

Destiny thinks that she has found the man of her dreams in Paolo since he possesses the signs–except for one. But it turns out that Stella has also her eyes set on Paolo. So a tug-of-war of sort ensues between Destiny and Stella for the attention and love of Paolo.

Paolo, on the other hand, most of the time ignores the two since he is really madly, deeply in love with his Italian girlfriend, Sofia (Andrea de Lugo).

Nathan and Phoebe also have a rich girl-poor boy love story aboard the ship. Lovely, on the other hand, develops a romance with no less than the captain of the ship.

Some of them found true love aboard the ship while others did not but discovered it somewhere else.

We also fell in love with the breathtaking tourist spots that were shown in the movie. The movie tags us along as the characters visit the most romantic places in the world, like Venice, Napoli, Barcelona, Tunisia, Palma de Mallorca, Genoa, Rome, among others.

But more than the love stories and postcard-like locations, the movie’s strength is its comedy scenes. All of the characters have their comedic moments, but Eugene and Rufa Mae delivered most of the best punch lines in the movie.

Unlike other movies about Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), which focuses more on the hardships and trials they experience while working abroad, I.T.A.L.Y. takes on a different route by showing the lighter side of being an OFW.

But this is not to say that the movie lacks touching moments. But they were presented in a manner that the viewer will still feel okay afterwards, since director Mark Reyes injected humor to these scenes. We particularly liked Destiny’s phone conversation with her father, where they were already crying but still managed to crack jokes in the end. The scene was made even funnier when Lovely silently listens to their conversation and ended up crying herself.

The movie’s main purpose really is to entertain and the movie delivered on this aspect.

If there’s one complaint we have about the movie is that there could have been more scenes showing the characters actually doing their jobs inside the cruise ship and interacting with other crew members, so we can get a better feel how it is working in a luxury liner. But since the main focus of the movie is the love story of each character, this aspect might have been sacrificed.

Also, there were some shots that are so dark that you cannot see the facial reactions of the characters. The camera also tends to focus more on close-up shots of the stars that we find a little bit distracting.

Not much is required of the cast since their roles have no major conflict, except for Dennis’s character. But all of them delivered and contributed to make the movie worth watching.

Jolina is very comfortable with her role that she goes through it with utmost ease. Rufa Mae shows her usual flair in comedy, quoting verses from songs as her dialogue and her one-of-a-kind-song number. Dennis had his dramatic highlights that showcased his sensibility as an actor. Mark and Rhian proved that they are competent young actors as well and their team-up is surprisingly cute.

But Eugene almost stole the movie with her effortless comic timing. It’s hard to mention one particular scene where she stood out since her presence is greatly felt in every scene that she is in–with or without dialogue–and all of them are hilarious. Her facial expressions alone can make anyone laugh to death. This comedienne is simply genius and her performance in I.T.A.L.Y. is another proof of that.

I.T.A.L.Y. is a simple movie without any pretensions and that’s what makes it

Catchy name. In the Philippines, teens know " ITALY as I Trust And Love You" so they will identify with it. Shooting it in all those places allow them to travel for free., viryaully. The plot is not unpredictable, but even US movies have plots that can be run-of-the-mill, but can be blockbusters when executed well and merchandised properly.

Are there any free geography games that test your knowledge of various countries all over the world?

August 23rd, 2010

I know that there probably are free downloadable games that test your geography knowledge. However, I haven’t been able to find any. A few years ago, I came across this Europe map game. Since, I have tried to find it, but all of the download links are dead. I’ll give 10 points to the first person who provides me a link to a working download (of any geography map game).

My idiotic teacher thinks these games help us, so he makes us go to www.sheppardsoftware.com. You will find some there, go to world geography.
